Book Latte's Cosplay Cafe

Official Poster for Book Latte's Cosplay Cafe

Love Meal Ticket
Anigumi Joukai was once again invited to help organize and host another cosplay cafe. This time, it's with Book Latte.
Located at Quezon St., Iloilo City, Book Latte is a special restaurant/cafe which makes it unique to all other establishment in the city. They have their own collections of books, from the classic novels of Edgar Allan Poe to the contemporary novels of Nicholas Sparks. Book Latte is the first library cafe and so far the only one of its kind in Iloilo.

This is considered to be the 3rd cosplay cafe of the Anijins and its literary character inspired. The theme was fairy tales but its not only limited to that. Servers that day were to wear any literary character from any literature they like.

Struck Meal Ticket

The Cosplay Cafe started serving at 2pm and the food were sold out around past 5pm.

Three sets of servers changed shift every two hours. The busiest hours always falls from 3:30pm going to 5:00pm. Each shift has 4 servers on duty.

Book Latte chose a few of their house specialty. Below was the menu used for the day's event. 2 rice meals and 2 pasta were the choices. Carbonara and Pan fried Chicken were the best seller that day.

It was another successful event by the Anijins. The restaurant was full and the tickets again were sold out. It was a another tiring but full of fun event.

Anijou's Icons

The Guild is not just swarmed of geeks and weirdos rather the guild is infested of artists in different means. Kidding and modesty aside, Anigumi Joukai is proud to say that most of members are highly exceptional talented individuals who can be misunderstood at times.

Audrey San Juan and Sam Suansing are just two of the best resident artists of Anijou. They are the ones responsible for these icons. Audrey draws the October events icons and so for the AI Expo. On the other hand, Sam draws and designs for the cosplay cafe.

Anijou Academy: Post Valentine Cosplay Cafe

"Okairenasai! Goshujin-sama, Ojou-sama"

"Welcome home master, mistress", greetings from the Anijins.

It's the second year that Anigumi Joukai partnered with Brew Burgers for the Valentine's Cosplay Cafe. In this year's event, the theme was seifukus and gakurans. Instead of seeing maids serving like last year's, Anijou had school girls and boys in uniforms serving omurice, katsudon and teriyaki.

The Official Poster for the event
Art by Sam Suansing

The official poster was released days before the event with Love in it. One of the resident artists of the guild, Sam Suansing, designed and did the layout for this event.

The bookmarks/tickets were really cute which made everybody got excited to have their own. This bookmark serves as the customer's meal ticket. Each ticket is comes with a meal and a drink. This is the third bookmark which was designed for the cosplay cafe. This is the second time that Love & Struck were redesigned for the cosplay cafe too.

Posters as Menu

It was also easier to have the menu posted on the walls for more convenience. It was made and designed by Sun Amargo and her friend. They did this art on the spot before the cosplay cafe started.
Beef Teriyaki, Californian Maki, Katsudon, Omurice and Tori/Katsu Curry Rice were the meal of the day with Ice Tea. Your P120 is definitely worth it with their big servings at Brew. Californian Maki and Omurice with sausages were the first to be sold out. Katsudon was the choice of many. Chopsticks were also available at that time to those who would really want to fully experience it the japanese way.
Katsudon ordered by Lanz

There were 12 servers who did their best that day. Supposedly there were 3 shifts but due to the flooding of customers, the crews were divided into two shifts.

Brew was never full more than it was that afternoon. Last year's maid cafe had 89 sales but it was topped by this year's cafe. There were a total of 140 sold tickets in just a matter of 5 hours. More or less 120 out of 140 tix were all reserved days before the event.

Games and prizes were planned for that event but due to overwhelming flood of customers, the planned flow of the cafe was not fulfilled. But the event was entertained by Robin Ivan Yap, Pepo, Gj Loreno and Brendan Apuan. They played different songs and even had the customers sang with them. Co souffle and Chill Bros were there selling key chains, bookmarks, wigs, kawaii glasses, etc.

Anijou's 4th cosplay cafe was a chaos in a good way. An overwhelming number of customers made their way that afternoon to Brew Burgers.

Let's end the talk here and why not take a glimpse of the fun we had on our recent cosplay cafe.

Pre-Valentine Maid Cafe

Not known to all, Cosplay Cafe is a very common sight in Japan, most especially in the district of Akihibara. Themed restaurant specifically, cosplay restaurants originated in Akihibara in the late of the 20th century. The main target market of these restaurants are otakus. A lot of otaku community abroad have embraced this phenomenon. As the dawn of the 21st century, it became known worldwide and gained its popularity then.

Anigumi Joukai never fails to bring otaku culture in the city. As the guild is getting better as it turned two in 2012, the core members continued the legacies of the existing guild. Aside from making and organizing big events in malls, Anijou officers thought of organizing a cosplay cafe on a whole different level. Partnering with a local restaurant, Brew Burgers & Cafe, Anijou organized the second Cosplay Cafe. It is safe to say that the cosplay cafe is first to happen in Iloilo City, here in Panay Island. Now, on its second run, the guild closed a partnership with the professionals.

One of the resident anijin artist, Sam Suansing, designed the two mascots, Love and Struck. To know more the background of the mascot, click here. February 11, 2012 was the date chosen thus making it a pre valentine cosplay cafe. It was themed, maid cafe. Anijins, who were willing to be servers for the day cosplayed the character of their choice. Some servers didn't cosplay, rather wear their personal maid outfit ensemble. There were 8 servers that day.

The cosplay cafe opened at 3pm until past 7pm. It was a fun afternoon for those who came. There were intermission numbers by Kimsshi, Brendan Apuan & Lee Santillan, Marc Louise and co. from Beat by Arts.

Tickets at P100 were sold out. Each meal tickets include a meal and a drink.
The specialty of the house was part of the menu. Burgers, Pasta and rice meals were the options. Pasta was the first to be sold out. Burgers got the highest sale.

It was a very successful event.

Enough talk and let's watch a short video by Mark Henry Melocoton.

TOrCH (Tournament of the Champions) '12- Iloilo Leg

For the first time in Ilonggo cosplay and Anigumi Joukai history, the guild was given the chance and the honor to become the local affiliate of Cosplay.ph and to host the recent TOrCH Western Visayas Preliminary Leg. Held at September 8 in SM City Iloilo's Activity Center, cosplayers within the city and from afar gathered to watch and battle it out.

Cosplay.ph's Pablo Bairon and fashionista, Cynette Montoya were the hosts for the whole afternoon
Guests from Manila came over to oversee the event's success. They were Sir Pablo Bairan, host extraordinaire, Sir Jason Tapel and Sir Guy Singzon, who also served as one of judges for both the Grand Prix and TOrCH.

The first competition to start was the Cyberzone Grand Prix, which was an individual competition for those not participating in TOrCH. Tako Mako's Beatriz Jardenico was in third place; Coleen Agana, also called Coleen D'Lovess came in second place and the Grand Prix's champion was none other than Anijou and Crude Arts' very own Crisvic Bayogos aka Kuma.

After the Cyberzone Grand Prix, everyone watched with bated breath, the four teams that contended for the privilege to be called the Iloilo Leg Champions.
The guild's very own Nyanpire Elisis and Lee Mizuumi were the first to perform as Erza Scarlet and Erza Knightwalker from Fairy Tail
In the end Bacolod's very own Team BanKai consisting of Edward Amparado (Kai Raito) and Stein Vivero (Banazure) won the title with the highest score (96%) so far in TOrCH history. They will be flying to Manila to represent Iloilo in the Finals of TOrCH of Cosmania Day 2 (September 30) at SM Mall of Asia.

Team Impulse from Cebu, with their awesome skit and props from the game Gods Eater Burst bagged the second place.

The event wouldn't be complete without games and live entertainment. The audience was kept alive by the game they called "Facepalm the Music", a rendition of the classic Guess the Song in which popular anime songs were played and contestants were asked to guess from what anime they came from.
That's gonna leave a Mar(c) (pardon me for the bad pun)
Dance numbers were performed by BBA (Beat By Arts), KISS MEDIA, and the guild's own Cristina and Hyde.

Hyde and....Soushi?!
Musical performances were done by KIMSSHI and Anijou's very own Kudasai.
